21st Century

A 21st Century Focus
Educators in today's world are faced with the challenge of providing relevant, engaging lessons that prepare students for life beyond the classroom. In addition to the need for a solid foundation in core academic subjects, students must also learn the "soft skills" many employers deem critical for a successful future. Today's students are natives of the digital world, yet there remains a need to teach them how to use technology responsibly and make informed judgments about the various forms of media available at their fingertips. Finding that careful balance between core academic learning and the integration of skills relevant to today's world is what we believe gives a classroom a 21st Century focus.

21st Century Skills in Title I
Learning Exchange has initiated an organization-wide effort to integrate 21st Century Skill learning opportunities with our Title I Reading and Math Skill Development Programs. We are stepping up to the challenge of creating lessons that are relevant and engaging, while placing a focus on helping our students to build a solid foundation of basic reading and math skills. The 21st Century Skills we incorporate into our lessons include:

  • Higher Order Thinking
  • Creativity and Innovation
  • Communication
  • Technological Literacy
  • Leadership
  • Ethics

Additionally, technological tools are being brought into the Title I classrooms. Younger students often use computers as learning tools; whereas older students will access computers to research, plan, learn, evaluate and perhaps create a product.
